HOW DOES CBD WORK IN THE BODY?

What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a supplement that has many health benefits. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. Hemp plants are selectively developed and grown to contain high amounts of CBD and very low amounts of THC.
Facts about Cannabidiol (CBD)
and How it Works
Our bodies have a system designed to work exclusively with Phytocannabinoids like CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the part of the plant that gets you high. It is called the Endocannabinoid System, and it is the catalyst for the many benefits of CBD. Each cell in our body has many receptors, all of which are activated by special compounds specific to them; glutamate binds to glutamate receptors in our body, serotonin to serotonin receptors; dopamine to dopamine receptors, and phytocannabinoid to endocannabinoids receptors. When CBD is introduced to the endocannabinoid system in our body it prevents the body from absorbing a pain regulating compound known as anandamide which results in a reduction of pain. CBD targets specific spinal receptors that help suppress pain and inflammation with a variety of anti-inflammatory properties. Another chief benefit is its anticonvulsant properties. CBD had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating severe types of childhood epilepsy.
An easy way to understand how the endocannabinoid system in our body works, you can think of it as a lock and key mechanism. The endocannabinoid receptors are the locks, and the phytocannabinoids are the keys. When the Phytocannavinoids bind to the endocannabinoid system in our body (CB1 and CB2 Receptors in diagram) they are able to produce physiological responses necessary for keeping cells alive and healthy.
In fact, you can say that the endocannabinoid system is one of the most important systems in the body because its main function is to maintain balance and homeostasis of the nervous system by helping good nerve function. CBD also reduces inflammation in the body which is the number one cause of disease!
